I thought the condition of this book was actually worse then what was described over the Internet. Little dissapointed by the 'half true' description of this book but overall I was ok with the rest of the 5 books that came together with this book. 5 out of 6 books in good condition, I'm ok with that.
I agree 100% with "A Customer" who previously wrote:"This book did not provide a good sense of how a regular runner can accomplish or improve a marathon. It was confusing and filled with information that was not helpful. Save your money."
Great book by the expert, Hal Higdon. Definitely worth reading from beginning to end. After running over 100 marathons and training countless people, he is the Marathon Guru and has had just about every experience imaginable. Great detail, humor, and training material for the novice to expert.
This book gives you all the basic information you need to run your first marathon. However, I would not call it the "Ultimate". There's nothing wrong with the book, but it's not super-inspirational or highly detailed. It's good, there's a lot of helpful info. For me, ultimate is Bob Glover or Timothy Noaks' books. Or, even Jeff Galloway.
This is a great book for beginning and experienced marathoners alike. It provides history, motivation, and a complete guide for everything from completing a first marathon to attaining a PR. Higdon has done a great job updating editions to keep up with nutrition products, such as gels and sport drinks.
